My results: ferritin, zinc and potassium need supplementing

(1/1)

koalabear:
hello everyone  sun21

Right, I'm really hoping today's discovery will cure my palpitations, blood pressure, extreme tiredness and all the things I'd been blaming the thyroid for!

Here are my results:

Haemoglobin 13.7 g/dl [12-16]

Hematocrit 40.0 V% [36-48]

Ferritin 16 ng/dl [10-291 Note: under 70 can cause hairloss] -- lack of iron

Potassium 1626 mg/l [1545-1857] BUT correlated with hematocrit -5%

Magnesium 36.2 mg/l [29-37]

Copper 1.02 mg/l [0.8-1.2]

Iron 479mg/l  [410-498]

Calcium 57.1 mg/l [52-60]

Zinc 3.85 mg/l [4.9-6.6] correlated with hematocrit -34%

Vitamin B1 54 µg/l [32-95]

Vit B3 50.81 µg/l [8-52]

Vit B6 44.6 µg/l [23.7-63]

Vit B12 646 pg/ml [211-911]

Vitamin E 8.7 mg/l [6-29]

Biotin Vitamin H 521 ng/l [>200]

Folic acid 23.4 ng/ml [>5.3]

So, along with my Vitamin D deficiency, there's ferritin, zinc and potassium. I wonder what advice or experience you've got regarding these minerals and things?

Hugs

Rosemary:
I've had low ferritin, nobody tested my zinc but I do know if you take these minerals they must be taken several hours apart. The iron really did buck me up and improved my hair and skin and I got less colds after that. Good luck.

Ah, that's good to know.

I had to pay privately for these tests and it came to over 200 euros, but hopefully my extra insurance will refund it - extra insurance for osteopathy and 'heilpraktiker'.

That's fantastic!  sun21 What was your starting level of ferritin and iron, and what did you increase them to?

I really need a boost, I've been struggling with the tiredness, high blood pressure and getting fed up with the palps for too long now.

I wonder if my 75% hairloss in 2010 was the iron, I'd put it down to the thyroid. Who knows, as long as it doesn't happen again because it was horrible.

cestmoiv:
Hi Rosemary.
i m looking for information to raise my ferritin.
how did you achieve yours
my ears and burning sensations come on full blown 2 weeks before my period and 1 week after.
my ferritin was low at 9 in August.

kate1:
Hi K bear,
Have you been supplementing with biotin and folate they seem higher than  norm.
Your iron is pretty low isnt it?
Think it might be the answer to a lot of your problems.

Ive been doing a bit of research on hair loss as im having a bit of a problem at the moment this year with it.
Iron ,zinc ,the b vits biotin silica vitc seem to be the main ones for hair.
Your b's look fine cant see b 5 on there though  which think is important one too for hair.
Zinc is always mentioned on hair loss vits.

So looks like zinc and iron are your two main ones along with the vit D.
You may soon feel on top of the world as the iron could answer all things.
Well worth having done I would say.

My vit D was really low too  and can result in extreme tiredness depression aching body and hair loss!
I asked my doc about hair loss and my ferritin at 50 and she said it was fine at that and no need to supplement but everywhere I read it says 70 to prevent hair loss so not sure whether to go ahead with a bit of iron.
Will you go through your doctor to advise and prescribe supplements or do it your self
Good luck hope you soon feel on top of the world. sun21
